Decades ago, the overall quality of wear alloy steel was measured only by hardness (the harder the better). However, many years in-field has proven that a balance of both HARDNESS and TOUGHNESS/RESILIENCE are required to produce the longest-lasting GET. Hardness is tested via Brinell durometer and Toughness via an impact test using a Charpy pendulum.

To help the optimal balance of Hardness and Toughtness, ETESA has developed a proprietary heat treatment process which is applied to all ETE steels. This process results in a tough steel with an even and consistent distribution of the hardness from the surface to the core of the part. As a result of this constant R&D, ETESA stands among the best in the industry on these metrics.
